Quick Facts: The Eastern Bluebird

Eastern Bluebird   Photo by Jennifer Smith.

Bluebirds are one of the birds that everyone wants in their yard. Here are some interesting facts!

~Bluebirds can spot bugs and caterpillars from a distance of over 50 yards.

~ Bluebirds will eat about 12% of their body weight in insects each day. That would be like a 200 pound person eating 24 pounds of food!

~ Bluebirds are capable of flying at speeds up to 45 MPH!

~ When a predator approaches the female bluebird will let out a warning cry in a effort to bring a protective male to help.

I love how the male and female Bluebird work together.
I can’t wait to see the babies these two have this year.
Thanks for using my photo.

I had a pair of Blue birds nesting and she laid five eggs. He has come back after being gone for two or three days but she has not. I haven’t seen her for about five days now. I feel sure something has happened to her. They were so much fun watching and was really looking forward to seeing babies.
I would like to just keep the eggs but have no idea what will happen with them. Will they dry inside or just turn bad?
thanks Dell
